Cayce Utley (she/her) organizes in northern Virginia, but her heart will always be in her home state of North Carolina. She was raised in a multi-generational family with working and middle class roots. As an adult she identifies as part of the owning class and believes shifting resources to rural and oppressed communities is an essential act of racial and social justice. Cayce was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis as a toddler and has spent her life battling systemic ableism. She brings a disability lens to her racial justice work, launching her local SURJ chapter with a coalition of activists seeking justice for Natasha McKenna, a Black disabled woman killed by sheriff’s deputies in Fairfax County.
